They are one of the least reliable cars my family has ever owned, My stepbrother got one, with 39k original miles on it. It looked and ran mint... for about a month. Then one of the gaskets on the rotary melted? or was just plain destroyed, and the motor needed rebuilding. He did some research and found that nearly all early 3rd gens had useless cooling systems. THey apparently can be made more reliable but the heat produced by a high revving 1.3 liter rotary making 255 hp is too much for the stock system. I think they are georgous but they aren't worth the trouble IMHO. The Z's are fairly reliable when in stock form, and even when modified. Yea it's expensive to fix when it does break but so is the Rotary when you have to rebuild the motor avery 40k. But this is just one scenario and opinion you'll have to draw your own conclusions, but as far as I know they are troublesome "whores"
